LarRene S. “Punk” Tompkins, 56, of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Erie Christian Church, Erie. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Memorials may be made to the Tompkins Memorial Fund.

BEVERLY K. VAN OOSTEN, 76, of Rock Falls, IL, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at her home.

Bev was born May 10, 1940 in Morrison, IL, to Earl A. and Pauline D. (Teach) Rhine. She was educated in the Lyndon Grade School and was a 1958 graduate of Lyndon High School in Lyndon, IL. She married Duane A. VanOosten on February 14, 1960, in Lyndon, IL. Bev was first employed by General Electric in Morrison, then was a school bus driver for Erie, IL schools. She later drove truck with her husband, Duane. Most recently, she was employed as office manager at Sterling Pavilion in Sterling, IL. Bev was a member of Erie United Methodist Church in Erie, IL. She enjoyed reading and knitting.

Survivors include her husband, Duane; two sons, Alan VanOosten of Erie, IL and Gary (Mag) VanOosten of Des Moines, IA; one granddaughter, Aubrey (Cyle) Snodgrass; one great-grandson, Garrett Snodgrass; and one sister, Barbara (Jim) Ottens of Morrison, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Christopher VanOosten.

VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

Patrick Lee Hinrichs

July 17, 1980 - March 17, 2017

PATRICK LEE HINRICHS, 36, of Prophetstown, IL, died Friday, March 17, 2017, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL.

Patrick was born July 17, 1980, in Sterling, IL, to Gary L. and Catharine M. (Sandrock) Hinrichs. He was educated in the Prophetstown grade schools and was a 1998 graduate of Prophetstown High School. He then attended Dana College in Blair, NE. Patrick was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown. He was the manager of the Prophetstown Wrestling team and manager of the Dana College Wrestling team. Patrick volunteered at the Lyndon Progress Center Preschool, the Tampico Elementary School and Prophetstown Elementary School. Patrick collected toy John Deere Tractors and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Survivors include his parents, Gary and Cathy; two sisters, Sarah (Chris) Vacanti of Omaha, NE and Staci (Nic) Lenox of Middle Island, NY; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Betty Hinrichs of Rock Falls, IL, one nephew, Lucas Vacanti; one niece, Allie Vacanti; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dean and Helen Sandrock and paternal grandfather, Walter Hinrichs.

Robert D. "Bob" Barnett

Robert D. "Bob" Barnett, 81, of Sterling, formerly of Lyndon, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home in Sterling.

Robert was born on February 24, 1936 in Buda the son of Robert E. and Rowena (Jackson) Barnett.

He married Judy Paulsen on June 19, 1972. Bob was a millwright at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company in Sterling for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He had previously been a mail carrier with the US Postal Service.

Bob was an avid Chicago Bulls fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. His favorite hobby was playing Rollie Bowlie with his friends. He loved camping, woodworking, and mostly spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his best canine companion Dolly.

Surviving is his wife, Judy, of Sterling; his children, Shelly (Dick) Williams of Sterling, Stan Stocks (Chrissy) of Palm Coast, Fla., Heidi (Bobby ) Fleener of Morrison, Tom (Betty) Barnett of Lyndon, Scott (Sherry) Barnett of Ava, Mark (Dorathy) Barnett of Cutler and Kim Barnett (Keith) of Mt. Morris; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dean Barnett of Buda, Arvil (Barb) Barnett of Buda and Richie (Cheryl) Barnett of Princeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Wayland and Vernon, a sister in law Phyllis and a grandson Aaron.
